AT THE MOVIES
Watching is only half of it.
I watch widely across languages, countries and periods, and I tend to remember films by writing them down.
01
Cinema is one of the places where I am happily indiscriminate. Language, country and period are rarely filters; if something interests me, subtitles are hardly going to stop me.
02
I log films on Letterboxd with unreasonable consistency. Some entries are critiques, some are notes on what stayed with me, and some record the mood or circumstances around the viewing.
03
Over time, the diary has become less a record of what I watched and more a record of who I was when I watched it.
I like the thought that years from now, the log might still tell someone something about the person doing the watching.
Continuity errors in my own opinions are preserved for archival purposes.
